Why You Need Serum & Moisturizer Both

When we use skincare products at home, daily routine should be like this at least.

Cleanser - Toner - Serum (Essence) - Moisturizer (Cream or Lotion) - Sunscreen (When you go out.)

However, many customers misunderstand that serum and moisturizer do same function so they use only either serum or cream. Finally they don't see big improvement.

Serum is a products you can apply to your skin after cleansing but before moisturizing with delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin. It is made up of smaller molecules that can penetrate deeply into the skin and deliver a very high concentration of active ingredients. This is for targeting specific skincare concerns such as hyperpigmentation, acne, wrinkles and dryness.

Then, is serum a moisturizer as we think?

No. Serum is full of moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides to help skin retain moisture. But, that doesn't make them moisturizers in the traditional sense.

Here is why.

Serum, based on water, penetrates deeper layer of skin. From there, it moves outward through to the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) before it evaporates.

A moisturizer's (cream or lotion) job is to trap or replenish the moisture in the epidermis layer.

Therefore, if you don't cover it after applying serums, you will feel dry.

If you're applying just serum or cream, you should add one more for your skin.
